Brighton takes its Sunday roasts seriously. Whether you want slow-cooked beef overlooking the sea, a sharing platter piled high with all the trimmings, or a proper pub roast with a pint of something local, this city delivers every single weekend. We have eaten our way through dozens of roast dinners across Brighton and Hove to bring you this list, and every one of these spots has earned its place at the table.

SEAFRONT

Salt Shed at The West Pier

Tucked into the King's Road Arches right by the ruins of the West Pier, Salt Shed is one of those places where the setting does half the work. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the sea while you tuck into beautifully cooked roasts with all the trimmings. The meat is locally sourced, the Yorkshires are proper, and the atmosphere on a sunny Sunday is hard to beat. This is a seafront roast that lives up to the hype. Book ahead, especially in summer. Or head over to their flagship restaurant in the North Laine of Brighton

CHARCOAL-GRILLED

Kindling Restaurant

Kindling is best known as a charcoal steakhouse on East Street in The Lanes, but its Sunday roasts have developed a serious following of their own. Everything is cooked over live fire, giving the meat a depth of flavour you simply will not find anywhere else. The sides are just as impressive, from brisket and jalapeno croquettes to grilled hispi cabbage. If you are after a roast that feels like a special occasion without the fuss, this is the one.

BEAUTIFUL INTERIORS

Pearly Cow

Pearly Cow on King's Road has quickly made a name for itself with a Sunday roast menu that punches well above its weight. The roast beef and pork belly are both outstanding, and the potatoes have that perfect crisp on the outside with a fluffy centre. The interiors are gorgeous too, all polished brass, soft lighting, and just enough seaside charm. It is a great spot for a roast that feels a little more refined without losing any of the comfort. Book a table by the window for sea views while you eat.

LOCAL PUB

Signalman

The Signalman sits halfway up Ditchling Rise and is one of those pubs that does everything well without shouting about it. The Sunday roast is generous, the meat is cooked properly, and the Yorkshire puddings are the size of your fist. It is a proper neighbourhood pub with a cracking beer garden, a solid drinks list, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere where you can settle in for the afternoon. A reliable choice every single week.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY

Ladies Mile

Circle Kitchen has taken up residency at the Ladies Mile pub in Patcham, and the combination is a winner. The roasts here are phenomenal, with pork belly crackling that shatters, tender beef rump, proper Yorkshire puddings, and homemade gravy that ties everything together. There is a sunny garden that makes this an ideal pick for families, and kids are well looked after with their own menu. It is a little further out from the city centre, but the quality of the food makes the trip more than worth it.

HISTORIC

Lion and Lobster

The Lion and Lobster on Sillwood Street is a Brighton institution with rooms upstairs, a buzzy bar downstairs, a hidden roof terrace, and a Sunday roast that keeps people coming back year after year. The portions are generous, the meat is well sourced, and the atmosphere on a Sunday is exactly what you want: warm, lively, and full of happy faces. We recommend arriving early or booking ahead, because tables fill up fast.

The Geese

Tucked away on Southover Street in Hanover, The Geese is one of those neighbourhood pubs that punches well above its weight on Sundays. The menu goes beyond the usual: pork belly, beef rump, garlic and thyme chicken, beetroot and sweet potato wellington, and even a vegan sausage option. The trimmings are proper and delicious, and the portions leave you properly satisfied. It is a cosy, unpretentious spot and well worth the walk up the hill.

CRAFT & CASK

Bottom's Rest

Bottom's Rest on Lower Market Street in Hove is the pub arm of the Brighton Gin family, and the Sunday roast here is a proper treat. The food is hearty, the beer selection is excellent, and the setting has a relaxed, welcoming feel that makes you want to stay all afternoon. Pair your roast with a Brighton Gin and tonic or one of the rotating cask ales.

VEGGIE-FRIENDLY

The Farm Tavern

The Farm Tavern on Farm Road in Hove is a real standout for vegetarians. The sweet potato and walnut loaf and smoked tofu pie are just as satisfying as the meat options, which include beautifully cooked pork, beef, and chicken from local farms. The signature Bloody Marys are the perfect Sunday morning starter. The eastern European-inspired tavern vibe gives the whole place a warm, slightly different character. A genuinely brilliant choice if you want something a bit more interesting.

AWARD-WINNER

Embers

Embers on Meeting House Lane in The Lanes won the 2025 BRAVO award for Best Sunday Roast, and for good reason. Everything is cooked over embers, giving the pork loin with apple sauce and scratchings a smoky depth that is seriously addictive. The skillet roasties are crisp and golden, the cauliflower puree is silky, and the charred vegetables are generous. This is one of the highest-rated restaurants in Brighton. If you only try one roast from this list, make it this one.

SMOKEHOUSE

The Poet Ale Smokehouse

The Poet on Montgomery Street in Hove is a smokehouse first and a pub second, which means the meat on your Sunday plate has been given serious attention. Expect slow-smoked cuts with a depth of flavour that standard roasts simply cannot match. The ale selection is top-notch too, with rotating guest beers that pair perfectly with the food. It is a friendly, down-to-earth spot. If you love smoked meat and proper beer, this is your Sunday sorted.

NEIGHBOURHOOD

The Railway Inn

The Railway Inn in Portslade is a proper community pub that takes its Sunday roast very seriously. The portions are big, the prices are fair, and the quality of the cooking has earned it a loyal following across Brighton and Hove. Word has clearly spread far beyond the neighbourhood. It is the kind of place where you walk in as a visitor and leave feeling like a regular. Well worth the trip west if you are after an honest, no-frills roast.

The Bell Tower

The Bell Tower takes the Sunday roast and gives it a proper upgrade. Served from 12 to 5pm, the menu features smoked beef picanha, rolled pork belly, and a stuffed filo pastry for vegetarians. The sides are where it really shines: grilled carrots with pesto, roast beet puree, and herb roasties that are impossibly crisp. You can add jumbo pigs in blankets if you are feeling indulgent, and there are kids' half-portions too. This is a roast that takes its craft seriously without taking itself too seriously.

BOTTOMLESS

Tapestry

Tapestry on Victoria Grove in Hove does Sunday roasts family-style, with sharing platters of meat or veg mains and unlimited seasonal vegetables and roasties brought to the table. If that is not enough, their Bottomless Sundays offer 1.5 hours of drinks alongside your meal, with extras like cauliflower cheese to add on. It is a brilliant option for groups and celebrations, turning a Sunday roast into a proper event. Still relatively new, this one is well on its way to becoming a Hove favourite.

SUSSEX SOURCED

The Cleveland Arms

The Cleveland Arms on Cleveland Road has won awards for its homecooked roasts, and once you have tried one you will understand why. All the meat comes from Sussex farms, the vegetables are seasonal, and the Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes are exactly how they should be. There are proper veggie and vegan options too, not just an afterthought. This is a neighbourhood pub that takes real pride in what it puts on the plate. A consistently excellent choice.

REFINED

The Gingerman

Part of the Ginger group of restaurants (Ginger Pig, Ginger Fox, Ginger Dog), The Gingerman is, in our opinion, the finest of the four. The Sunday roast here is refined without being fussy: roast beef, pork belly, or a vegetarian squash pithivier, all beautifully presented with seasonal sides. It is excellent value for the quality. The restaurant is small and intimate on Norfolk Square near the seafront, so always book in advance. This is a roast for when you want something truly special.

BISTRO

Petit Pois

Petit Pois on Ship Street in The Lanes is a French-inspired bistro that does a limited number of Sunday roasts, and they sell out fast. The slow-cooked pork belly with crackling, roast chicken with wild mushroom sauce, and beef are all superb. The duck fat potatoes and honey-glazed carrots are the kind of sides you will be thinking about all week. There is a kids' menu from just £10, making it a smart choice for families. This little Lanes bistro is a Sunday favourite for good reason.
